Which iPhones can record the front and back camera at the same time?
Apple says its multi-camera capture sample needs an iPhone with an A12 or later chip, which means iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and newer. DualCapture also requires iOS 18.0 or later on its App Store listing. If your iPhone runs iOS 18, it meets both.

What Apple requires
Apple's developer sample for recording the front and back cameras into one movie says you must run it on an iPhone with an A12 or later processor, or an iPad Pro with an A12X or later processor (Apple documentation, read 2026-10-24). A12 is the chip in iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.
What DualCapture requires
The App Store listing says DualCapture needs iOS 18.0 or later. Open Settings, General, About to see your iOS version. If it reads 18 or higher and your iPhone is an XS, XR or newer, you can install it.
Quick check
| Your iPhone | Multi-camera capture | DualCapture |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone XS, XS Max, XR | Supported (A12) | Needs iOS 18 |
| iPhone 11 and newer | Supported | Needs iOS 18 |
| iPhone X and older | Not on the Apple list | Not available |
The third row follows from the Apple A12 requirement. Our other guides say DualCapture is built for iPhone 15 and newer, and we have not tested older models, so treat the XS and XR rows as what Apple and the listing allow, not as a test result.
Why it matters
Apps that record both cameras use the same Apple multi-camera system. An app can only promise what the iPhone hardware allows. Older apps such as DoubleTake list older iOS versions, so they may install where DualCapture cannot.
Frequently asked questions

If it has an A12 chip or newer (iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later), Apple supports multi-camera capture.
What iOS version does DualCapture need?
iOS 18.0 or later, per the App Store listing.
Is DualCapture tested on iPhone XS or XR?
No. The listing needs iOS 18 and Apple supports the chip, but we built and tested for iPhone 15 and newer.
